Frozen Planet es narrada por David Attenborough, quien viajó a las regiones polares para la realización de la serie. Attenborough visitó por primera vez la Antártida hace 17 años, pero ésta era su primera vez para visitaba el Polo Norte geográfico. Para llegar allí, tuvo que volar sobre un campo de hielo de Rusia en el océano glacial Ártico, donde pudo (después de varios días de mal tiempo) finalmente llegar al mismo polo en helicóptero.
