Goofy, padre soltero, vuelve con su hijo Max a su pueblo natal de Spoonerville. El amigo de la escuela de Goofy, Pete, quien es el dueño del concesionario de coches usados "Pete es de fiar", vive al lado con su mujer y su hijo PJ y su hija Pistol. Max y los pequeños se hacen muy amigos, y Max y PJ hacen todo juntos. Sin embargo, Pete y Goofy continúan con su rivalidad de cuando eran jóvenes y Pete se aprovecha de las buenas intenciones de Goofy.
