Trata-se de uma adaptação da obra de Robert Littell, que segue a linha de The Pretender, produção da década de 1990. A história apresenta a vida de Martin Odum, um agente da CIA que assume diversas identidades para realizar suas missões, sob o comando de Nelson Gates. Com o tempo, ele começa a acreditar que sua própria identidade é uma criação do governo.
