Sherwood acompanha dois assassinatos que devastam os moradores de uma pequena comunidade britânica. Já fragilizada por tragédias anteriores, as emoções se intensificam entre as pessoas do vilarejo. Julie Jackson (Lesley Manville), esposa de uma das vítimas, precisa encarar o passado para tentar entender o que motivou a morte de seu marido Gary. O detetive Ian St. Clair (David Morrissey) utiliza de todos os seus recursos para tenta desvendar esse brutal crime, mas para isso terá de voltar décadas na história da cidade.
