Cuando la decidida Laura Holt abre una agencia de investigación, pronto se da cuenta de que nadie contratará a una mujer detective que trabaja sola. Así que para atraer clientes decide inventarse un jefe ficiticio llamado Remington Steele y ponerle ese nombre a su negocio. A partir de ese momento, el negocio empieza a funcionar, pero entonces aparece un apuesto hombre con la cara de Remington Steele.
