Charlie Crews (Damian Lewis, "Hermanos de sangre") ha pasado los últimos doce años condenado a cadena perpetua por un triple homicidio que no cometió. Durante ese tiempo, fue perdiendo todo los que tenía; su esposa, sus amigos y sus compañeros policías. Hubiese sido más fácil que lo condenaran a muerte, ya que debido a su pasado como policía tanto los reclusos como los guardias se ensañaban con él, lo que le hacía pasar más tiempo en el hospital de la prisión que en su celda. A partir de ahí, solicitó pasar el resto de su condena en una pequeña celda de aislamiento durante 23 horas al día, una condición que casi le hace perder la razón, y donde las dudas sobre su culpabilidad comenzaron a acecharle.
