Habiendo muerto por una enfermedad a los 39 años, Machio Hiraku tiene la oportunidad de renacer en otro mundo. Cuando Dios le pregunta cuál es su deseo con la intención de darle fuerzas, solicita tener un cuerpo sano esta vez. Conmovido, Dios se lo concede y le permite una segunda petición, a lo que solicita una vida pacífica. Aún más conmovido, Dios le ofrece una tercera petición, por lo que escoge conocer el idioma local. Ante tal demostración de humildad, Dios decide permitirle un cuarto deseo, a lo que Machio solo pide cumplir su sueño de ser un agricultor en este nuevo mundo.
