Se centra en el trabajo de la Brigada 62 de bomberos de la ciudad de Nueva York, después del 11S y más en particular en un bombero divorciado, Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary), que intenta lidiar con el miedo a su trabajo y la ansiedad que sufre viendo a su mujer saliendo con otros hombres. Para poder estar más pendiente de su ex y cerca de sus tres hijos, Tommy se traslada a vivir enfrente de ellos.
