Sanditon es el nombre de un antiguo pueblo de pescadores que se está transformando en un balneario de moda. Allí se encuentra Charlotte Heywood, una mujer liberal y moderna para la época y también muy impulsiva que desea reinventarse. La trama da un giro cuando salen a la luz las agendas ocultas de los personajes, cuya fortuna depende del éxito comercial de Sanditon.
