La serie se centra en el personaje principal de Johnny Bravo, un hombre rubio y musculoso que persigue a todas las mujeres que pasan por su lado, pero ninguna le hace caso. Busca constantemente una mujer que esté dispuesta a quedar con él, pero incluso cuando parece que encuentra una, las cosas salen mal y las mujeres terminan golpeándolo. Johnny Bravo tiene un parecido a James Dean. Vive en una ciudad ficticia llamada Aron City. La serie cuenta con referencias a la cultura pop y chistes orientados a adultos astutos que comprenderían gran parte del humor de la serie.
