A série acompanha a vida da família Cunningham em meados dos anos 1950: o pai Howard, a mãe Marion, a filha Joanie e Richie, o filho mais velho. Além deles, os amigos de Richie preenchem a série. Eles são Arthur Fonzarelli, Warren Weber e Ralph Malph.
