El carismático Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks), jefe de cirugía del Hospital Hope-Zion de Toronto cae en un coma profundo, dejando al hospital sumido en el caos, y a su novia y colega, la cirujana Alex Reid (Erica Durance), en estado de shock.
